Trans-Himalayan Wildlife

With its vast open spaces, untouched wildernesses, and low population density, the Trans-Himalaya, the Tibetan Plateau, and the Karakorum Ranges are spectacular for wildlife watching. I’ve been fortunate to spot and track quite a few of the animals and birds that call the roof of the world their home.

Here are some of the more interesting ones. All images have been shot in the wild.

  • Himalayan Blue Sheep (Pseudois nayaur) in Hemis NP
  • Galloping Kiang (Eqqus kiang) in the Changthang
  • Dal lake, Srinagar
  • Newborn Kiang (Eqqus kiang)
  • Eurasian Eagle Owl
  • Wooly hare, Nubra Valley
  • Brown headed gull, Pangong Lake
  • Chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar) Hemis NP
  • Himalayan Blue Sheep (Pseudois nayaur) in Hemis NP
  • A red fox (Vulpes vulpes), Changthang, Ladakh
  • Tibetan snowcocks (Tetraogallus tibetanus)
